Bought an extra battery works great just like the one that came with the ring doorbell 2. Extra battery on hand is the best way to go after I wasted time and money with the so called solar chargers advertised for the ring doorbell 2 they are 100% worthless speaking from experience.

These batteries have very little charge life sadly. Unfortunately I'm having to recharge them every 2-3 weeks. Not ideal especially since this is mounted outside and not easily reachable.

Bought this 2nd battery for my ring security system. All charged and within 12 hours both batteries are drained. Bought the solar panel, placed it by the unit where direct sunlight is strong. Does not charge it. Have to constantly, charge and recharge the batteries. Ring unit is plastic and the top closure where the batteries are, is flimsy and does not snap shut well, could be why the batteries are draining. Frustrating to buy this unit, spend over $200.00 or it and accessories and not have it work longer than12 hours.

This works for the doorbell as well as for the cameras. It’s definitely necessary for the cameras because without a second battery in the compartment you will have to recharge it more frequently than you would expect

It appears that Ring intentionally designed this door bell so that you have to have a battery, even though the door bell is hard wired to power. Any decent engineer knows that the battery in this scenario should only be for back up power. But Ring has made sure that even the door bell function will NOT work if the battery is dead! It is in keeping with the overall system bad design, sending video to their server, even on live view, instead of to you. Pan and scan web cams that cost 1/4 the price of Ring email pics directly to you without connecting to a Mfr's server and requiring you to do the same. And there is no annual fee. Ring is a deceitful, dishonest company, be careful giving them your financial information.
