Reviews: Amcrest Monitor Detection Motion Tracking Wireless

This a word from Dave D. tell us Great value with a lot of features..

This review is for the Amcrest SmartHome AI Human Detection WiFi Camera, ASH21-W.

At this price point this is a great value. The image and video resolution is clear. You have recording options of the cloud, SD card, NVR, or the phone app. A wall mount kit is included. The PTZ is a little more responsive than prior models. The night vision is better than the prior models as well.

The AI motion tracking is a bit of a hoot. It does track whatever moves so be sure you’re wanting this feature. You can setup motion detection zones if you only want to track within a viewing range although I didn’t try that. In my case, I turned motion detection off because the alerts were driving me nuts for where I have it but if I were to put it in a room where there is less motion it would be great. Also, you can setup a schedule for the motion detection. A great use would be to set it just at night when things aren’t supposed to be moving in certain places. I do notice that the motor is a little noisy on the video recordings when it’s tracking. That really doesn’t bother me much.

I had a bit of a challenge with setup because I didn’t realize this can only be setup from the Amcrest Smart Home App. Once I figured that out ( reading is important, I know) setup was a breeze. I was able to set the camera up as a P2P camera on the Amcrest View Pro app where I have my other cameras. I was also able to setup the camera on my Amcrest NVR.

I recommend this camera especially for people that want to record to and manage the camera in the cloud.

As Jonathan Parent Talk Finally Great AI Human Detection Alerts.

After trying many cameras that claim to have "AI Human Detection Motion Push Alerts", this Amcrest camera truly lives up to their promise. With this camera you have the option to have all general motion detection alerts pushed to your smartphone or just human motion detection alerts. The algorithm so far has been spot on with distinguishing the difference and the push notification is instant. With Wyze cam losing their current AI Human Detection algorithm and the future abilities of the feature on their cams unknown as of now, this feature is critical for me to be able to react to human motion in real time with out having to worry about getting constantly bumbarded with false motion notifications. Great job on the AI on this one Armcrest, you launched this camera at exactly the right time to so I don't miss a beat with my home security monitoring.

Edit: A good High speed Micro SD card preferably 246 gb is a must for good data transfer rates and viewing recorded content. Lastly, picture quality is great.

Another customer Adibee tell us Great Camera with lots of useful features.

-Quality: 10/10
-Value: 9/10
-Recommendation: 10/10
-Features: 10/10
-Overall: 10/10
Pros: Easy to Setup, Solid Packaging, Lots of Features, SD Card option, Baby Monitor option, Good Infrared Night Vision
Advice: Have the option to disable camera voice(When it connects to your network), Add a free basic cloud storage option, Have the ability to add the camera to Amcrest View Pro, include the option to view through a computer web browser, Add permanent HD mode(App defaults to SD mode every time you view the camera)

Review: I have a few different smart camera around the house but needed one that is reliable and has a good build quality hence I decided to get this camera. I have multiple Amcrest IP cameras that have been very reliable and I love the ability to control them all under one streamlined app. This camera does not disappoint, even though I was bummed out that it does not use the Amcrest View Pro and I had to download another app from Amcrest(Amcrest Smarthome).
The camera has lots of features like AI Human Detection, 360 views, 1080P HD Resolution, Smart Tracking, and two-way audio and some nifty Baby Monitoring options. I have tested out most of the options and can say that it's been pretty solid so far. I like the fact that you can use an SD card to store all the data in there, which is awesome if you decide not to use their cloud storage functionality. You can add an sd card up to 256 GB of capacity which is great and will easily record days of recording. There is also a cloud storage option you can choose but that costs money and I wish they had a basic free option to choose from. Another thing I found out that the camera talks out loud every time it connects to your network or if you restart it. I hope they push in an update so that we can disable this option. A big feature of this camera is Baby Monitoring and the last thing you need is the camera screaming it connected to your network. Having said that there is an option under "Video Settings" I have found where you can lower the volume of the camera's speaker and that will significantly reduce the volume.
You also have the option of the camera emailing you notifications if it detects any motion, which is pretty good and I have not seen it in other smart cameras in this category. You can check all the motion triggers and recordings under the "Events" section in the app which is categorized pretty well. Overall I am happy with my purchase and would recommend this camera.

As Bitsy experience Impressive AI and Sleek Design.

I have received and have been testing the Amcrest AI powered smart home Wi-Fi camera for about three weeks now. I currently have six of the original Wi-Fi indoor cameras and two of the Wi-Fi outdoor cameras from Amcrest that I’ve had for five + years. Love them all!

I was pleasantly surprised by the design of this new camera. It’s much smaller and sleeker than my other cameras. The compact design means I can put the camera in smaller areas around my home. The only disappointment that I had was that it came with a white power cord rather than a black power cord. I ordered the black camera hoping that it would have a black cord like the others because it's much easier to hide. It was also a bit shorter than the last cord that I received for the 4MP UltraHD Indoor camera. That cord was 9.5 feet long. The difference in length just means it prohibits me from using it in certain areas.

I found the set up of the new camera to be very easy and the instructions simple to follow. My other 8 cameras are all operating on the Amcrest ViewPro app, but I couldn't get this camera to load into that app. I had to use the Amcrest SmartHome app. While this app is simple to use with a nice design...it causes some issues because I now have to view 8 of my cameras on one app, and this one on the SmartHome app. I contacted customer support and they were quick to respond and very helpful. They provided instructions on how to connect the camera to the Pro app and it works perfectly now.

As far as the SmartHome app goes, it was easy to figure out how to set up the motion detection schedule. A minor issue is that I can't figure out how to change the 24 hour time back to 12 hour. I've also found that the notifications come in faster.

Once I had the motion detection set up with the human detection and smart tracking features enabled....WOW...I was SO IMPRESSED. This is exactly what I need for my front hall/door monitoring camera. My current camera will detect my cat moving across the path multiple times a day. While I enjoy seeing her, it's really not the purpose of this camera. I want to be notified if a person enters my home or walks across the field of view. I also love the smart tracking feature. The fact that it returns to it's original position once the object has moved past is brilliant. Sometimes the person moving past is too quick and it can't track, but overall it's a great feature.

The privacy mode is also a nice addition. It would be a great added feature (unless maybe I just can't find it) to have a schedule setting for privacy mode. A privacy mode schedule would allow me to have that setting occur every day at the same time without having to set it manually.

The instructions for the camera indicate that an SD card can be used, but it doesn't say where the card is. It is partially hidden when the camera is facing forward. Rotate the camera straight up and it's on the base of that sphere.

There was also the implication that moving the camera would require a new setup, but I have moved mine several times this week...even leaving it unplugged for several hours...and it still comes back on and shows up in the app with no issues.

Another customer chris Harrison say Great ptz camera. highly recommend..

So i have a lot of experience with security cameras and i have to say this is one of my favorite for ease of use, speed, and price.

I have an arlo camera set which doesn't compare although it is the 1st generation arlo. I have tested other arlo and would still prefer this. The reason is speed to see the camera. I pull up the app and it takes at most 2 seconds. usually less. The arlo takes much longer period.

The image quality also is good. One thing that is a complaint. i dont see where i can set it up to only stream hd quality so you have to switch it every time you load live view. But i guess this is to speed up the viewing.

Another small complaint is if you use sd card for storage and the storage space is full. The alerts will show from past days and act like you can view it but you cant. Overall not a huge issue.

The other thing i want to talk about for those who will use an sd card. 16 gb will cover roughly 1 1/2 day of constant recording from what i can tell. You can set it up to record only motion also which will give you much more time. And will cause less issues for the alerts. But i prefer constant recording for more time for me to view stuff.

This a word from JG experience Very versatile!.

This camera is the most versatile camera I own. I bought it mainly to plug into gaps as needed, while deploying very quickly. The night vision is great, the motion detection is good (like normal), and the ai motion tracking is really neat!

The ai motion tracking is a new concept for me, but I was very surprised at how quickly and quietly it adjusted. The camera can adjust up, down, left, and right rather fast. I figured there would be a rather audible motor sound to accompany this. I was surprised how quiet it was. Let me be clear, it's not silent. But it's quieter than the clicking noise my Blink cameras make when they are set off by motion.

I didn't get this as a baby monitor, but since it's an option, of course I tried it. We had fun making noise to watch it track the decibel level and set off the alarm. It was super simple to drag the squelch and alarm thresholds on the fly. As a father of 2 toddlers, if I were to buy this as a baby monitor, I'd be pleased. The only feature I think it's missing is a thermometer to report back on room temperature.

Overall I'm glad I bought this 'budget' camera as it came in handy this week when our furnace went out. I was able to set our infared heater in our room with our dog, while monitoring with the camera for safety reasons while waiting for the HVAC guy to show up and repair our central air.

All of this to say, I'm not surprised, but Amcrest comes through again!

While NightShadowX6 said Sooooo easy to setup and use, great nanny cam.

Another great camera from Amcrest. They have added another device to their smart home line (I have two more) and I really like it. This has to be the easiest nanny cam type device I have ever used. I was operational from plug-in to viewing in under 2 minutes. If you want easy, this is it.

Plug it in, install the app on your phone, follow the add device wizard... Done

VIDEO: solid video quality that is equal or better to other similar devices... Way better than the cheap $30 nanny cams. This has a super wide angle lens, probably not good for monitoring small spaces as the video will seem weird, but it is awesome for catching an entire room wall to wall.

NIGHT VISION: This works very well, I can see everything no matter how dark it is. Be careful putting this behind or next to glass (lamp) because the IR will reflect and be too bright to see detail.

MOTION: Very sensitive and catches movement very well and triggers alerts. You may want to define the motion detection area in the app, or you will be getting notified that a fly has entered the room.

AI: I haven't had this device long enough to see how the device learns or what it supposed to do, but I will update this review if I notice any cool changes based on the AI.

OVERALL: Recommend this for monitoring any room especially as a nanny cam. You are almost guaranteed to like this camera for that purpose. I do not recommend using this for a hallway as the wide angle is not suited for narrow areas. Highly recommend if you need an inexpensive way to monitor a room and you want SUPER easy setup.

Another customer R.Hawkins Talk An exceptional value.

At only 4" tall the wide angle video quality from this small camera is exceptional plus it has two way audio and night vision. It's simple to set up and use, first you'll need to download the Amcrest Smart Home app. Power up the camera, scan the QR code with the app., set a password, and log into your internet connection. In just a second or so you'll have a live video feed. The app offers a multitude of options, including motion detection, baby monitor mode, scheduling, pan & tilt, video controls, email notification and much more. I tested all of the functions and everything worked flawlessly. Recordings and images can be saved to a mini-SD card or the Amcrest Cloud (first year free). All in all, it's a lot of camera for the money.

My friend kaimanson said ***Amcrest ASH21 Smart Camera with great features at an affordable price***.

Unboxing:
The new Amcrest ASH21 is a beautiful made little camera comparable with those low budget indoor cameras such as Wyse, smartthings, nest cam indoor, EZVIZ, Ring cam indoor. It feels well made and comes with: power adapter, 78” power cable (micro usb), screw mount, and a small bracket that I believe is a wall mount that attach to the bottom of the camera, really weird location for a wall bracket; especially if it is design to swing to the sides, mine didn't lock all the way in. Camera has an Ethernet connection for faster connection.

Setup:
Instructions to setup the camera via app are simple and well explained. More subjects can be found on the Amcrest support site. One thing that I couldn’t find anywhere was how to insert the SD card, even on the site there is not any instructions on how to do it. The only way I found to do it without manually forcing the lent is to tilt the lent all the way up via the app then you would see the access to the SD card slot and reset button.

Amcrest Home App:
The app overall has been working fine and the setup process was simple, you can setup motion schedule, human detection and smart tracking (feature that I was really impress). I had to format my 64sd card on my computer to FAT32, just make sure the whole SD card is on FAT32. I had it formatted a few times under FAT32 and it was not found by the camera. I realize 46mb of the SD card were still under NFTS. I had to remove that partition and reformatted under FAT32 and the camera was able to find it.

Motion detection is great an even better with the Human detection option in that way my dog won’t trigger the camera. Tracking is really cool especially if you have it setup in a hallway with low traffic. My only biggest complaint with the whole Amcrest Home App is that you cannot download the footage via the app, make it really inconvenience that every time you want to share a footage you have to physically remove the SD card and put it in the computer.

Compared to Wyze (WYZEC2) - Kasa Cam – Ring Indoor cam – Nest Cam.
After testing the camera for 31 one days I can come to the conclusion that the Amcrest Ash21 is an amazing deal for the cost, has basically the same features as the more expensive cameras but for a lower cost. The more expensive cameras have for sure a better OS and more smart features, such as the face recognition on the nest. The 2 way communication is loud enough and clear to hear and speak to. This would be my to go camera for any indoor use. Smart enough to track people and move the lens around to follow the person, clear image during the day and night.
At the end everything comes down also to you ecosystem, if you have an all Ring or Nest setup maybe it could be better for you go with the same brand because you can setup automation within, instead if you bring an Amcrest it won’t do anything to trigger your Ring’s lights. Wyze can be a cheaper choice if you only indoor cameras and that’s it. On the other hand if you have and Amcrest NVR you can add this cameras and even the Amcrest doorbell to it for constant recording. YMMV.

Review C. Ha experience Good video quality, very compact unit with PTZ.

This is my first IP camera that has PTZ controls and it is very nice. I have several other brands that are fixed and it was nice to be able to interact with the camera and move it around the room.

The application is easy to use with my existing doorbell and provides a seamless experience. Setup is very simple with the app and QR code on the bottom of the camera.

I wish the camera allowed recording through my existing Blue Iris software but I haven't been able to find a method to do so. Manually browsing to the IP address of the camera doesn't allow me to do anything so far.

Quality is great and much sharper than the older 720p cameras I have. Very clear picture and easy to see more detail.

Overall, very happy with the camera and quality, as well as all the newer functions afforded.
